Spencer Steer and Nick Martinez

Why was Cincinnati Reds first baseman and certifiable love-dumplin' Spencer Steer named National League Player of the Week? Among other things, he hit three home runs in a row in the same game against the Padres, last Friday night.

This must be no. 2.

Six other players so far this year have had three-homer games; plus my darling Geno Suarez (3B for los Serpientes) hit four on April 26. (The following is split into AL first, then NL.)

A total of 19 players have had 4-homer games in recorded MLB history; before Geno accomplished it, the last player to do so was also a Diamondback: J.D. Martinez in September 2017.

Anyway, this was supposed to be a Spencer Steer love-fest, so let's get back to him, shall we?

The other half of the Reds story from Friday night was RHP Nicholas Andres Martinez, who by an incalculable margin has the best ass on the MLB mound today.

He's also just fucking adorable:

...and I could successfully wank to his fucking forearms without breaking a sweat.

Anyway. Nicky came soooooo close to pitching a no-no Friday night. He got through eight complete innings and walked the lead-off batter of the ninth, Trenton Brooks (his second BB issued; the first was in the first). Then Elias Díaz hit a double. So very sad.

This was apparently the first time since at least 1961 that an 8-complete-inning no-hitter coincided with a three-homer game.
